Время, за которое количество клеток в культуре увеличивается вдвое; как правило, В.у. существенно превышает время поколения generation time, потому что не все клетки в популяции могут стабильно делиться, может иметь место лизис клеток и т.п.

Удваивающее время — средний временной промежуток, необходимый для удвоения численности популяции. У. в. равняется времени воспрозводства, если:
а) каждая клетка в популяции способна образовывать 2 дочерние клетки;
б) каждая клетка имеет такую же, как и в среднем для популяции, продолжительность времени деления;
в) отсутствует лизис клеток. У. в. обычно больше, чем время деления одной клетки.
